Flint shrugs off penalties, upends Pittsburgh, 7-2

The Flint Junior Generals, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Pittsburgh Vengeance's power play opportunities and emerged with a 7-2 victory.

Flint was led by Josh Koepplinger, who registered one goal. Koepplinger scored 7:30 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Flint. Mark McGee picked up the assist.

The Junior Generals made Vengeance's goalies to work without much rest, finishing with 47 shots and forcing 40 saves. Jason Kumpfmiller made 26 stops and Chase Stanford made 14. Flint stifled Pittsburgh's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Junior Generals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Flint also got points from Conor Durgan, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Brett Leppek, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Flint included Oliver Lindstrom, who had one and Reno de Hondt, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Flint were Luke Dmytro, who had one and Nicholas Gnagni, Jacob Howie, Justin Fisher, and Ryan Burr, who each chipped in two.

The Vengeance's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Flint power plays.

Pittsburgh was helped by Joseph Randazzo, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Randazzo scored 9:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pittsburgh. Oskar Thorsen provided the assist. Pittsburgh also got a goal from Lukas Friberger as well. In addition, Pittsburgh received assists from Michael Straub, who had two.

Flint's Nathan Klebe stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Vengeance incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
