Granite City squeaks by Minnesota, 3-2

The Granite City Lumberjacks and the Minnesota Flying Aces were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Granite City made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Aidan Verbeke at 16:54 of the third period.

The Lumberjacks were sparked by Verbeke, who registered one goal.

Granite City was paced by Verbeke, who racked up one goal.

The Lumberjacks did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Granite City puts an average of 5.3 pucks into the net per game. The Lumberjacks' offense rang up 37 shots on Minnesota's net.

Gavin Porter also scored for Granite City. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Brady Berhardson and Billy Warren, who contributed one a piece.

The Flying Aces' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Granite City power plays.

Minnesota was led by Jake Mullendore, who tallied two goals. Mullendore scored the first of his two goals at 5:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minnesota. Jordan Forschen picked up the assist. Mullendore's next tally made the score 2-1 Minnesota with 14:05 left in the second period. Blair Seitz provided the assist. More assists for Minnesota came via Tyler Leverty and Blake Anderson, who each chipped in one.

Scott Murray made 13 saves for Granite City on 15 shots. The Lumberjacks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Mike Stumpf rejected 34 shots on goal for the Flying Aces. Minnesota incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
