Peoria uses shootout to best St. Louis, 3-2 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Peoria Mustangs defeated the St. Louis Jr. Blues in a shootout 3-2 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. St. Louis got shootout goals from Tommy Heinzman and Alexander Carlsson. In addition to the clincher, Peoria got shootout goals from Sam Turner and Andrew Scofield.

The Mustangs overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Peoria fell behind 2-1 after a goal by the Jr. Blues' Jake Wynd at 1:02 in the third period. The Mustangs tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Brennan Anderson at 12:28 in the third period.

Peoria put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow St. Louis to score on any of its four power plays. The Mustangs forced the Jr. Blues goalie Cooper Cothran to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Peoria also got a goal from Austin Ziakas as well. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Marshall Gevers, Turner, and Joe Lampman, who contributed one a piece.

St. Louis excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Jr. Blues' offense operated below they season average. St. Louis puts an average of 4.7 pucks into the net per game. The Jr. Blues' offense rang up 33 shots on Peoria's net.

Christian Argyros also scored for St. Louis. More assists for St. Louis came via Heinzman, Zane OBryan, and Adam Havener, who each chipped in one.

Marc Hayton made 31 saves for the Mustangs on 33 shots. Peoria incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Cothran recorded 38 saves for St. Louis. The Jr. Blues incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
