Early goals doom Alexandria, falls to Granite City, 8-1Runestone Community Center Sat, Oct 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Granite City Lumberjacks opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to an 8-1 over the Alexandria Blizzard. Alexandria was stymied by Granite City netminder Scott Murray, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Murray managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.41 prior to the game. The Lumberjacks got the win with help from a great game by Tobias Gabrielsen, who had one goal and two assists. Gabrielsen scored on the power play 7:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City. A slashing penalty on Jake Maxson had put Granite City on the power play. The Lumberjacks' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Granite City averages 5.8 goals per contest. The Lumberjacks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Granite City also got points from Gavin Porter, who also registered one goal and one assist. Granite City also had goals scored by Christian Mohs, who had one, Aidan Verbeke, who had two, and Luc Richardson, who had three. The Blizzard registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Alexandria ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Levi Erickson was ejected from the game.
