The St. Louis Jr. Blues' Andrew Kovacich scored 2:37 into overtime to beat the Wisconsin Whalers, 4-3 (OT). St. Louis' penalty kill excelled, as the Jr. Blues gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. St. Louis was led by Kovacich, who had one goal and one assist. The Jr. Blues stifled Wisconsin's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Louis kept the Whalers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michal Marcinek made 50 saves on 54 shots. Others who scored for St. Louis included Zane OBryan, Lucas Stewart, and Mike Lozano, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for St. Louis were Kyle Meeh, Tommy Heinzman, Alexander Carlsson, Andrew McGlynn, and Christian Argyros, who contributed one a piece. Wisconsin's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three St. Louis power plays. The Jr. Blues were unable to stop the Whalers from sending pucks towards the net, and Wisconsin eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Whalers were helped by Connor Hyde, who tallied one goal. Hyde scored 11:34 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Wisconsin also had goals scored by Ryan Martin and Adam Alcott, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Brett Gates, who had one. Clint Steinmeyer rejected 37 shots on goal for St. Louis. The Jr. Blues incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Wisconsin incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
