In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Michigan Mountain Cats escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Toledo Cherokee. Michigan gained the winning advantage on a goal by New Player 3:25 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Kade Morrison had a great game for the Mountain Cats, netting two goals. Morrison found the back of the net short handed 9:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Michigan and again while 18:58 into the third to make the score 4-2 Michigan. Michigan excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Mountain Cats' offense rang up 34 shots on Toledo's net. Michigan also got a goal from Austin Buchholz as well. More assists for Michigan came via John Arms, Shawn Cornock, Guy Soulliere, and Abram Prince, who each chipped in one. The Cherokee forced Michigan goalie Walker Bass to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. Toledo was helped by Brody Duncan, who registered one goal and one assist. Duncan scored 3:41 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Michigan. Tyler Zalecki picked up the assist. Toledo also got points from Zalecki, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Toledo were Matt Trautlein, who had one. Bass rejected 43 shots on goal for the Mountain Cats. Michigan incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Cherokee's Clay Horvath stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Toledo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
