Huge game by Verbeke boosts Granite City over Breezy Point, 8-1

Aidan Verbeke was all over the ice for the Granite City Lumberjacks, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Granite City's 8-1 win over the Breezy Point North Stars.

Verbeke found the back of the net 4:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City and again while short handed 7:05 into the first to make the score 2-0 Granite City.

The Lumberjacks' penalty kill excelled, as Granite City gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Lumberjacks stifled Breezy Point's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Granite City forced the North Stars goalie Joey Bergquist to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Lumberjacks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Granite City averages 4.4 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Granite City also got points from Brady Berhardson, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Travis Kothenbeutel, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Drew Otto, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Granite City also had goals scored by Jordan Keller, who had one and Aaron Storch, who had two. In addition, Granite City received assists from Morgan Martelle, who had two and Roy Grandov, Mitchell Gwost, David Horsmann, Zac Sikich, and Christian Mohs, who each chipped in one.

Breezy Point found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere 14 shots against the Lumberjacks' defense. The North Stars could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game.

Breezy Point was led by Austin Williams, who scored the team's only goal. Williams scored 8:40 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Granite City.

Granite City's Scott Murray stopped 13 shots out of the 13 that he faced. The Lumberjacks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Bergquist rejected 25 shots on goal for the North Stars.
