Cincinnati vanquishes Metro in shootout, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cincinnati Swords defeated the Metro Jets in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Cincinnati got a shootout goal from Nick Haase.

In a losing effort, Metro was led by Zach Kopinski, who grabbed two goals. Kopinski scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:55 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Jets earned a power play opportunity when Devin Fracassi was put in the box for tripping. Cody Jones provided the assist. Kopinski's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 27 seconds left in the second period. Michael Lawrence assisted on the tally.

The Swords were paced by Braden Smith, who had one goal. Smith scored 16:04 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cincinnati. Emil Sundstrom picked up the assist.

Cincinnati forced Metro goalie Trevor Kalinowski to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Others who scored for Cincinnati included Jessie Fracassi and Henry Smith, who scored one goal each. More assists for Cincinnati came via Haase, Nikita Korotkov, and Thomas Clayton, who each chipped in one.

Brad Hepler also scored for Metro. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Adam Lockner and Matt Dempsey, who contributed one a piece.

Joe Sheppard rejected 25 shots on goal for the Swords. Cincinnati incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Kalinowski recorded 32 saves for the Jets. Metro incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
