Lake Tahoe Blue wins tough contest against Seattle Totems, 4-3Olympic View Fri, Jan 24, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Lake Tahoe Blue escaped with a 4-3 victory over Seattle Totems. No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Martin Vachal at 15:51 of the third period. Lake Tahoe Blue's penalty kill excelled, as Lake Tahoe Blue gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays. In a losing effort, Seattle Totems was paced by Frank Flight, who grabbed two goals. Flight scored the first of his two goals at 6:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Seattle Totems. Eric Danna picked up the assist. Flight's next tally made the score 2-2 with 29 seconds left in the second period. Lake Tahoe Blue stifled Seattle Totems' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Lake Tahoe Blue forced Seattle Totems goalie Bryce Fink to work between the pipes, taking 59 shots. Lake Tahoe Blue's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Lake Tahoe Blue finished with 44 penalty minutes. Lake Tahoe Blue also got points from Mark DeVaughn, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Lake Tahoe Blue also had goals scored by Branislav Kost and Nick Anderson, who each put in one. In addition, Lake Tahoe Blue received assists from Edgars Homjakovs, who had two and Tim Ahlin and Vincent DiMaggio, who each chipped in one. Seattle Totems excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Seattle Totems kept Lake Tahoe Blue's goalie busy throughout the game, and Troy Turpin made 39 saves on 42 shots. Seattle Totems also got a goal from Piers LaFrance as well. Other players who recorded assists for Seattle Totems were Robin Bjoernstad and Sergey Kuznetsov, who contributed one a piece. Bryce Fink made 55 saves for Seattle Totems on 59 shots. Seattle Totems incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
