Sydney Ice Dogs outlasts Melbourne Ice, 5-3

Sydney Ice Dogs and Melbourne Ice were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Sydney Ice Dogs made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Matt Puntureri secured the win for Sydney Ice Dogs with a goal in the third period.

Sydney Ice Dogs got the win thanks to a great game by Simon Barg, who had two goals and one assist. Barg scored the first of his two goals at 43 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Sydney Ice Dogs. Todd Stephenson picked up the assist. Barg's next tally made the score 3-1 Sydney Ice Dogs with 7:42 left in the second period. Puntureri assisted on the tally.

Sydney Ice Dogs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Sydney Ice Dogs put 22 shots on net during the contest, more than the 3.4 it averages per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Sydney Ice Dogs also got points from Dave Dunwoodie, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Puntureri, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Sydney Ice Dogs came via Robert Malloy, who had one.

Melbourne Ice was held below its usual level of production. Melbourne Ice averages 5.4 goals per game. The 35 shots that Melbourne Ice put on net surpassed Melbourne Ice's average of 3.4 shots per game this season.

Melbourne Ice was led by Jason Baclig, who registered one goal and two assists. Baclig scored 7:02 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Sydney Ice Dogs. Todd Graham picked up the assist.
