Perth Thunder wins tough contest against Canberra Knights, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Perth Thunder escaped with a 3-2 victory over Canberra Knights.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Ken Rolph at 9:07 of the third period.

Perth Thunder was led by Rolph, who racked up one goal and one assist.

Perth Thunder put 42 shots on net during the contest, more than the 2.9 it averages per game.

Robert Haselhurst also scored for Perth Thunder. Other players who recorded assists for Perth Thunder were Michael Forney, who had three and Brad Young and Riccardo Del Basso, who contributed one a piece.

Canberra Knights put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Perth Thunder to score on any of its six power plays. With 20 shots on target during the contest, Canberra Knights exceeded the 1.2 shot it averages per game this year.

Canberra Knights was helped by Jordan Gavin, who had one goal. Gavin scored 14:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jordan Braid provided the assist. Canberra Knights additionally got points from Braid, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Canberra Knights received assists from Harry Byers and Mikko Jortikka, who each chipped in one.

Michael Smart made 18 saves for Perth Thunder on 20 shots. Perth Thunder incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Chris Slauenwhite rejected 39 shots on goal for Canberra Knights. Canberra Knights incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
