The Waterloo Siskins survived a determined comeback attempt by the Stratford Cullitons on the way to a 3-1 win. Waterloo made the score 3-0 on a goal by Christian Mroczkowski at 19:48 in the second period, and Stratford got as close as 3-1 when Mitch Vandergunst scored 10:20 into the third period. The Siskins were led by goalie Leo Lazarev, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Lazarev will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.31. Waterloo forced the Cullitons goalie Michael Pesendorfer to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Siskins were helped by Mitch Atkins, who registered one goal. Atkins scored 8:27 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Waterloo. Matt Martin assisted on the tally. Waterloo also got a goal from Troy Lajeunesse as well. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Evan Buehler, who had two and Nick Petropoulos, Matthew Mah, and Danny Hanlon, who contributed one a piece. Stratford was held below its usual level of production. The Cullitons put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. Stratford's offense rang up 36 shots on Waterloo's net. More assists for Stratford came via Patrick McKelvie and Tyson Baker, who each chipped in one. The Siskins incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Cullitons' Pesendorfer stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Stratford incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
