Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the xNiagara Falls Canucks defeated the xAncaster Avalanche in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO). The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams. xNiagara Falls' other shootout goal was scored by MacKenzie Wood.The Canucks saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. xNiagara Falls made the score 2-0 on a goal by Cole Vinnai at 13:03 in the second period. xAncaster evened things up at 2-2 on a goal by Blake Luscombe at 8:38 in the third period. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:37 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Canucks' offense rang up 34 shots on the Avalanche's net. xNiagara Falls also got a goal from Wood as well. More assists for xNiagara Falls came via Marcus Michalski, who had two and Johnny Curran and Billy Saxton, who each chipped in one. xAncaster forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Avalanche had been spending in the box. xAncaster was helped by Zach Nieminen, who had one goal. Nieminen scored on the power play 5:15 into the third period to make the score 2-1 xNiagara Falls. The Avalanche had gained a power play chance when Austin Wright was whistled for hooking. Harrison Domagala picked up the assist. xAncaster additionally got points from Luscombe, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. xNiagara Falls' Emerson Verrier stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Canucks totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-7 on the power play. Team's Chris Harpur and Frank Nemeth were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Matt Calas made 31 saves for xAncaster on 33 shots. The Avalanche registered two goals on two power play opportunities. xAncaster ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Farrelly was ejected from the game.
