Waterloo stifles Elmira's comeback, gains 4-2 victory

The Elmira Sugar Kings almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Waterloo Siskins managed to pull out a 4-2 win in the end.

Waterloo led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Siskins' Christian Mroczkowski's scored on the power play at 19:28 in the first period to put Waterloo up 3-0.

The Siskins got the win on the strength of a great game by Ryan Taylor, who had one goal and two assists. Taylor scored on the power play 18:29 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Waterloo. Waterloo earned a power play opportunity when Adam Campagnolo was put in the box for holding. Andrew Brubacher picked up the assist.

Elmira was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Siskins were able to score four times while on the power play.

Waterloo forced the Sugar Kings goalie Hayden Neuman to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Waterloo additionally got points from Evan Buehler, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Eric Cimino also scored for Waterloo. More assists for Waterloo came via Danny Hanlon, who had one.

Elmira was helped by Brad Kobryn, who racked up one goal. Kobryn scored 7:18 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Waterloo. Justin Cooke provided the assist. Elmira also got a goal from Alex Mutton as well. In addition, Elmira received assists from Craig Johnson and Steven Jakiela, who contributed one a piece.

Leo Lazarev rejected 28 shots on goal for the Siskins. Waterloo incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Neuman recorded 27 saves for the Sugar Kings. Elmira incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Sugar Kings, Brodie Whitehead was ejected from the game.
