Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the xChatham Maroons defeated the xLondon Nationals in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO). The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. xLondon's shootout goal was scored by Tristen Elie. xChatham's other shootout goal was scored by Kyle Brothers.The Maroons saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. xChatham made the score 4-1 on a power play goal by James McEwan at 13:59 in the second period. The Nationals evened things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Derek Todosichuk at 10:56 in the third period. Michael Verboom was all over the ice for the Maroons, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win. Verboom scored on the power play 7:11 into the first period to make the score 1-1. xChatham earned a power play opportunity when Jonathan Sims was put in the box for interference. Brothers provided the assist. The Maroons could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. xChatham additionally got points from Brothers, who also grabbed one goal and three assists and Adam Arseneault, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for xChatham came via Steven Szekesy, who had one. xChatham was unable to stop xLondon from sending pucks towards the net, and the Nationals eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. xLondon could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game. xLondon also got points from Paul Hopkins, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for xLondon included Ryan Wells and Keaton Ratcliffe, who scored one goal each. In addition, xLondon received assists from Matt Wildman, who had two, Elie, who had three, and Anthony Kotsovos and Matt Fuller, who contributed one a piece. The Maroons' Jacob Keogh stopped 39 shots out of the 43 that he faced. xChatham registered four goals on 14 power play opportunities. Jacob Riley made 24 saves for the Nationals on 28 shots. xLondon registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Nationals ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Todosichuk was ejected from the game.
