Huge game by Grant boosts Kitchener over Cambridge, 7-3Kinsmen Arena Tue, Feb 18, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kitchener Dutchmen's Keli Grant had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in his team's 7-3 win over the Cambridge Winter Hawks. Grant scored on the power play at 8:57 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kitchener and again while 4:02 into the third to make the score 6-1 Kitchener.Kitchener made Winter Hawks' netminders to work in net, firing 49 shots and forcing 42 saves. Lucas Machalski made 30 stops and Darren Huck made 12. The Dutchmen excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Kitchener found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Dutchmen average 3.7 goals per contest. Kitchener also got points from Kyle Ellis, who also registered one goal and one assist, Mac Nichol, who also had one goal and one assist, Mitchell Smith, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Brett Clampitt, who also tallied one goal and four assists. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Clayton Greer, who had two and Connor Cole and Adam Kawalec, who each chipped in one. Cambridge was helped by Anthony Guido, who registered one goal and one assist. Guido scored 19:37 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Kitchener. Adam Dauda assisted on the tally. Cambridge additionally got points from Dauda, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Scott Pawson also scored for Cambridge. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Alex Bottigoni and Hudson Michaelis, who contributed one a piece. Marcus Del Conte made 25 saves for Kitchener on 28 shots. The Dutchmen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Winter Hawks ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For Cambridge, Marcellis Subban was ejected from the game.
