Niagara Falls downs Port Colborne in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Niagara Falls Canucks' Johnny Curran scored 1:00 into overtime to beat the Port Colborne Pirates, 6-5 (OT).

Although Niagara Falls was up by as many as three goals in the second period, Port Colborne kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Pirates got to within 4-3 on a goal by Matt Ceko at 3:18 in the third period.

The Canucks was paced on offense by Curran and MacKenzie Wood, who combined for five points. Curran registered two goals and one assist and Wood also added two goals.

Niagara Falls kept Port Colborne's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Danson made 48 saves on 54 shots. The Canucks found themselves short handed often, totaling 22 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Niagara Falls also got points from Mitch McIntosh, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Brooker Muir as well. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Cole Vinnai, Dylan Pietrangelo, and Denis Creighton, who contributed one each and Garrett Gallardi and Marcus Michalski, who each chipped in three.

Niagara Falls was unable to stop the Pirates from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Colborne eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Pirates struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 34 penalty minutes for 14 opposing power plays.

Port Colborne was led by Ryall Ledyard, who racked up two goals and one assist. Ledyard scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:51 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Niagara Falls. The Pirates earned a power play opportunity when Billy Saxton was put in the box for hooking. Ty Learn picked up the assist. Ledyard's next tally on the power play made the score 5-5 with 6:36 left in the third period. James Mense-Detrich assisted on the tally. Port Colborne additionally got points from Cody Levasseur, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Learn, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Port Colborne came via Matthew White, who had two and Quinn Geddes and Brock Ackerman, who contributed one each.

The Canucks' Pietrangelo stopped 32 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Niagara Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Saxton was ejected from the game.
