Cambridge squeaks by Guelph, 5-3

The Cambridge Winter Hawks gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Guelph Hurricanes.

Cambridge gained the winning advantage on a goal by Devin Shell 17:54 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Adam Dauda was all over the ice for the Winter Hawks, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Dauda scored 12:12 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Cambridge.

Guelph's power play was ineffective against Cambridge's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Winter Hawks forced the Hurricanes goalie Stormer Santana to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Cambridge struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Cambridge also had goals scored by Jake Moggy, Maxime Lamontagne, and Alex Bottigoni, who each put in one. More assists for Cambridge came via Alex Mills, Kalob Witzell, Matt Pinder, and Tyler Peters, who each chipped in one.

Guelph kept the Winter Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Lucas Machalski made 31 saves on 34 shots.

The Hurricanes were helped by Dylan Sayle, who had one goal. Sayle scored 14:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Guelph. Craig Martini picked up the assist. Others who scored for Guelph included Matt Nightingale and Lucas Pozzobon, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Lawrence Pagnan, Patrick Kudla, Ryan Migliaccio, and Jordan Hatzinger, who contributed one a piece.

Cambridge registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Santana recorded 27 saves for Guelph. The Hurricanes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
