Huge game by Lajeunesse boosts Waterloo over Brantford, 7-2

The Waterloo Siskins' Troy Lajeunesse had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-2 win over the Brantford 99ers.

Lajeunesse found the back of the net 10:50 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Waterloo and again while on the power play 16:52 into the first to make the score 3-1 Waterloo.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:57 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Waterloo was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Siskins surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Waterloo made 99ers' goaltenders to work between the pipes, finishing with 41 shots and forcing 34 saves. Andre Keire made 10 stops and Evan Wolfe made 24. The Siskins bested their season scoring average. This season, Waterloo averages 3.5 goals per contest.

Waterloo also got points from Matt Schieck, who also registered one goal and one assist and Brett Dykstra, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Waterloo also had goals scored by Luke Gazzola, Thomas Carey, and Danny Hanlon, who each put in one. More assists for Waterloo came via Evan Kearns, who had two and Nick Hirst, Evan Buehler, Matthew Mah, Connor Bodnar, Joshua Defarias, Mitch Atkins, and Ryan Taylor, who contributed one a piece.

Brantford had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances.

The 99ers were helped by Cole Cummings, who finished with one goal. Cummings scored on the power play 4:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brantford. A holding penalty on Mah had put Brantford on the power play. Guy Polillo assisted on the tally. John Nay also scored for Brantford. In addition, Brantford received assists from Nathan Bastian, who had two.

Ryan Hergott recorded 23 saves for the Siskins. Waterloo registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Team's Matt Martin and Jarrett Parker were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The 99ers ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. For Brantford, Scotty Penwarden was ejected from the game.
