Ancaster uses shootout to best Thorold, 3-2 (3-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Ancaster Avalanche defeated the Thorold Blackhawks in a shootout 3-2 (3-1 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams. Thorold's shootout goal was scored by Owen Sobchak. Ancaster also got shootout goals from Luke Zupan and Blake Luscombe.

The Blackhawks were unable to stop the Avalanche from sending pucks towards the net, and Ancaster eventually piled up 45 shots on goal.

The Avalanche were helped by Hayden Guitard, who finished with one goal. Guitard scored 4:22 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ancaster. Spencer Leenders picked up the assist. Ancaster also got a goal from Ryan Lewis as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Zupan, Max Balinson, and Harrison Domagala, who contributed one a piece.

Thorold did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Blackhawks put an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. Thorold forced Ancaster goalie Braydon Banitsiotis to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

The Blackhawks were helped by Joe Mitchell, who registered one goal. Mitchell scored on the power play 11:02 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Ancaster. Thorold had taken the advantage when the Avalanche's Cole Nagy got sent off for tripping. Kevin Lavoie provided the assist. Thorold also got points from Sobchak, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Thorold received assists from Kyle Tanev and Kevin Millejours, who each chipped in one.

Banitsiotis recorded 47 saves for Ancaster. The Avalanche incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Brendan Polasek rejected 42 shots on goal for the Blackhawks. Thorold incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
