St. Catharines uses shootout to best Niagara Falls, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the St. Catharines Falcons defeated the Niagara Falls Canucks in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Niagara Falls' shootout goal was scored by Vito Scaringi. In addition to the clincher, St. Catharines got a shootout goal from Yanni Rallis.

The Falcons came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. St. Catharines fell behind 3-2 after a goal by the Canucks' Austin Wright at 14:01 in the second period. The Falcons knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Tyler Jackson at 2:14 in the third period.

St. Catharines forced Niagara Falls goalie Emerson Verrier to work between the pipes, taking 50 shots.

The Falcons were helped by Brennan Feasey, who grabbed one goal. Feasey scored 13:08 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Mark Rodgers picked up the assist. Ryan Stayner also scored for St. Catharines. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Broderick Kelly, Jacob Parisotto, Aaron Taylor, and Nigel Slade, who contributed one a piece.

The Canucks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five St. Catharines power plays.

Niagara Falls was helped by Marcus Michalski, who finished with one goal. Michalski scored on the power play 12:04 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls. A bench / coach penalty on Feasey had put the Canucks on the power play. Garrett Gallardi assisted on the tally. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Cole Vinnai as well. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were MacKenzie Wood, Tory McLean, Mitch McIntosh, and Brooker Muir, who each chipped in one.

Knick Dawe made 25 saves for St. Catharines on 28 shots. The Falcons incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Niagara Falls' Verrier stopped 46 shots out of the 49 that he faced. The Canucks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
