Early goals doom Port Colborne, falls to St. Catharines, 12-2

The St. Catharines Falcons jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Port Colborne Pirates, 12-2.

St. Catharines got the win behind a great game by Cam Blakely, who had two goals and two assists. Blakely scored the first of his two goals short handed at 16:10 into the first period to make the score 3-0 St. Catharines. The Falcons found themselves down a man on Broderick Kelly's goalie interference. Blakely's next tally short handed made the score 10-1 St. Catharines with 12:46 left in the third period. Mitch Bursey picked up the assist.

St. Catharines forced Pirates' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 54 shots and forcing 42 saves. Marcus Hlywka made 29 stops and Braeden Thoms made 13. The Falcons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Port Colborne power plays. St. Catharines' goal total was higher than its season average. The Falcons average 5.1 goals per game. St. Catharines got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

St. Catharines additionally got points from Ryan Stayner, who also registered two goals and one assist, Aaron Taylor, who also had two goals and one assist, Ryan Doucette, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Bursey, who also had one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, and Brennan Feasey, who also registered one goal and one assist. Greg Jambrosich also scored for St. Catharines. More assists for St. Catharines came via Nigel Slade, who had three, Kyle Woodhouse and Dilan Walker, who each chipped in one, and Yanni Rallis and Mark Rodgers, who contributed two a piece.

Port Colborne made the Falcons' goaltenders to work between the pipes, firing 36 shots and forcing 34 saves. Jonathon D Ilario made 20 stops and Jeff Maxwell made 14.

St. Catharines incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors and had no power play opportunities. The Pirates incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
