Brown nets hat trick, leads Caledonia to 7-3 win over Port Colborne

The Port Colborne Pirates could not stop the Caledonia Corvairs' Cody Brown, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-3 win.

Brown's first goal came 2:44 into the second period. He then added goals at 19:16 into the second and at 5:12 into the third.

Caledonia was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The Corvairs had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. Port Colborne was unable to stop Caledonia from sending pucks towards the net, and the Corvairs eventually piled up 60 shots on goal. Caledonia outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Corvairs average 4.9 goals per contest.

Caledonia additionally got points from Connor Murphy, who also had one goal and one assist and Connor Patton, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Caledonia also had goals scored by Spencer Gourlay and Scott Dorian, who scored one goal each. More assists for Caledonia came via Kyler Nixon, who had three and Jordan Peacock, Jeffrey Malott, and Matt Quilty, who each chipped in one.

The the Pirates penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Port Colborne surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Team could not crack Caledonia's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

The Pirates were helped by Ryall Ledyard, who registered one goal. Ledyard scored 3:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Colborne. Quinn Geddes provided the assist. Others who scored for Port Colborne included Matt Ceko and Spencer Fox, who each put in one. In addition, Port Colborne received assists from Patrick Desjardins and James Mense-Detrich, who contributed one a piece.

Colin Furlong recorded 21 saves for the Corvairs. Caledonia registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Corvairs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gourlay was ejected from the game. Port Colborne's Jake Danson stopped 53 shots out of the 60 that he faced. For the Pirates, Jerrad Taylor was ejected from the game.
