Waterloo survives Elmira comeback, wins 4-3

The Waterloo Siskins survived a determined comeback attempt by the Elmira Sugar Kings on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Christian Mroczkowski put Waterloo up 4-2 in the third period, but Elmira pulled to within one on Brad Kobryn's tally 7:26 into the third period.

The Siskins got the win with help from a great game by Ryan Taylor, who had one goal and two assists. Taylor scored 17:04 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Waterloo. Mroczkowski assisted on the tally.

Waterloo also got points from Mroczkowski, who also registered one goal and one assist and Evan Buehler, who also had one goal and one assist. Waterloo also got a goal from Connor Bodnar as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Nick Hirst, Luke Gazzola, and Jarrett Parker, who contributed one a piece.

The Sugar Kings managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Elmira ended up below its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. Waterloo was unable to stop the Sugar Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Elmira eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Sugar Kings were helped by Mitch Wright, who grabbed one goal. Wright scored on the power play 13:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. A tripping penalty on Brett Dykstra had put Elmira on the power play. Adam Brubacher picked up the assist. Mitch Klie also scored for Elmira. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Cash Seraphim, who had one and David Savery and Eric Palazzolo, who contributed two a piece.

Leo Lazarev made 29 saves for the Siskins on 32 shots. Waterloo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Sugar Kings took out Hayden Neuman after he had made 10 saves and installed Jonathan Reinhart in goal, where he finished with 11 saves and the loss. Elmira registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
