Stratford falls to Brampton after surprising comebackAllman Arena Fri, Feb 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Brampton Bombers battled back to claim a 5-4 victory over the Stratford Cullitons. Brampton never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Bombers trailed 2-0 after a goal by Stratford's Nathan Templeman at 15:45 in the first period. Brampton tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Josh Villaflor at 5:13 in the third period. The Bombers netted the game winner at 6:39 in the third period on a goal by Villaflor.
Brandon Clelland had two goals and one assist to lead Brampton. Clelland scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 35 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-3. Francois Cote picked up the assist. Clelland's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Brampton with 13:21 left in the third period. Cameron Cruickshank assisted on the tally. The Bombers made the Cullitons' goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Michael Pesendorfer made 24 stops and Nick Caldwell made three. Brampton surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Bombers average 2.8 goals per contest. Brampton also got points from Reid Jackman, who also registered two goals and one assist. In addition, Brampton received assists from Mark Shoemaker, Connor Andersen, Carmine Vietri, Ethan Morrison, and Eric DiCarlo, who each chipped in one. Stratford kept Brampton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Scott Patton made 36 saves on 40 shots. The Cullitons were helped by Tyson Baker, who racked up one goal. Baker scored 10 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stratford. Drew Gross picked up the assist. Others who scored for Stratford included Devon Kropf and Jordan Currie, who scored one goal each. More assists for Stratford came via Josh Miller, Pat McKelvie, Mitch Brooks, Dylan Wettlaufer, Ryker Killins, and Mitch Vandergunst, who contributed one a piece. The Bombers totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For Brampton, Greg Wilson was ejected from the game. Stratford incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
