Listowel falls to Waterloo in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Listowel Arena Fri, Feb 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Andrew Brubacher gave the Waterloo Siskins a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Listowel Cyclones when he scored 4:16 into the extra period. Waterloo's penalty kill excelled, as the Siskins gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. Waterloo was led by Brubacher, who tallied one goal. The Siskins stifled Listowel's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Waterloo kept the Cyclones' goalie busy throughout the game, and Daniel Dekoning made 49 saves on 52 shots. Waterloo also had goals scored by Evan Buehler and Mitch Atkins, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Troy Lajeunesse, who had two and Nick Petropoulos, Nick Hirst, and Matt Sheick, who contributed one a piece. Listowel put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Siskins to score on any of their three power plays. Waterloo was unable to stop the Cyclones from sending pucks towards the net, and Listowel eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Cyclones were led by Kenny Huether, who had two goals. Huether scored the first of his two goals at 6:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Listowel. Kevin Gergley picked up the assist. Huether's next tally made the score 2-2 with 3:22 left in the third period. Tim Nauta assisted on the tally. More assists for Listowel came via Ted Nichol and Brad Yowart, who each chipped in one. Leo Lazarev made 35 saves for the Siskins on 37 shots. Waterloo ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Team's Eric Cimino and Jarrett Parker were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Listowel incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Cyclones, Brandon Frandsen was ejected from the game.
