xLeamington uses shootout to best Lambton Shores, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the xLeamington Flyers defeated the Lambton Shores Predators in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Lambton Shores' shootout goal was scored by Jay Ritchie. In addition to the clincher, xLeamington got a shootout goal from Nathan Opblinger.

The Flyers overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. xLeamington trailed 3-1 after a goal by the Predators' Brendan Trottier at 7:44 in the third period. The Flyers tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Tony Spidalieri at 12:57 in the third period.

xLeamington's penalty kill excelled, as the Flyers gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

xLeamington stifled Lambton Shores' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Flyers forced the Predators goalie Brett Gilmour to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. xLeamington's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Flyers finished with 38 penalty minutes.

Others who scored for xLeamington included Opblinger and Mitchell Amante, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for xLeamington were Jacob McGhee, Alex Seguin, and Cale Allen, who contributed one a piece.

Lambton Shores' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight xLeamington power plays.

The Predators were helped by Steven Beenackers, who grabbed one goal. Beenackers scored 19:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lambton Shores. Bryan Boersma picked up the assist. Kyler Keating also scored for Lambton Shores. More assists for Lambton Shores came via Ryan Gruszka, who had two and Ritchie, Kirk Dorman, and Brent Hammett, who each chipped in one.

xLeamington's Austyn Roudebush stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Brett Gilmour made 38 saves for Lambton Shores on 41 shots. The Predators incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
