Cambridge outlasts Waterloo, 3-2

The Cambridge Winter Hawks gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Waterloo Siskins.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Cody Gratton at 14:39 of the third period.

Gratton had two goals to lead Cambridge to victory.

The Winter Hawks' offense rang up 37 shots on Waterloo's net.

Adam Dauda also scored for Cambridge. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Anthony Guido, Alex Bottigoni, Matt Pinder, and Hudson Michaelis, who contributed one a piece.

The Siskins managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for 12 minutes in penalty time. Waterloo ended up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Siskins kept Cambridge's goalie busy throughout the game, and Lucas Machalski made 30 saves on 32 shots.

Waterloo was helped by Danny Hanlon, who racked up one goal. Hanlon scored 8:57 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge. Christian Mroczkowski picked up the assist. Waterloo also got a goal from Troy Lajeunesse as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Nick Hirst, Evan Buehler, and Matt Sheick, who each chipped in one.

The Winter Hawks avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of two power plays. Leo Lazarev rejected 34 shots on goal for the Siskins. Waterloo registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. The Siskins ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Luke Gazzola was ejected from the game.
