Caledonia wins tough contest against Niagara Falls, 3-2

The game between the Caledonia Corvairs and the Niagara Falls Canucks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Caledonia emerged with a 3-2 win.

The Corvairs gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matt Quilty 10:58 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Caledonia was sparked by Quilty, who registered one goal and one assist.

The Corvairs were held below their usual level of production. Caledonia puts an average of 5.1 pucks into the net per game. The Corvairs' offense rang up 51 shots on Niagara Falls' net. Caledonia was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes. The Corvairs was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on 10 chances with a man advantage.

Caledonia also got points from Spencer Gourlay, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Cody Brown also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Connor Patton and Kyler Nixon, who contributed one a piece.

The Canucks stifled Caledonia's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Niagara Falls' offense operated below it season average. The Canucks average 4.2 goals per game. Niagara Falls could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Canucks were helped by Garrett Gallardi, who had one goal. Gallardi scored on the power play 11:22 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Niagara Falls had taken the advantage when the Corvairs' Clayton Millard got sent off for too many men. Marcus Michalski picked up the assist. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Tory McLean as well. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Johnny Curran, Austin Wright, and Vittorio Giannico, who each chipped in one.

Ian Sylves (APJ) recorded 25 saves for Caledonia. The Corvairs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Connor Murphy was ejected from the game. The Canucks' Emerson Verrier stopped 48 shots out of the 51 that he faced. Niagara Falls registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
