Stratford rips Guelph, 6-1

The Guelph Hurricanes had trouble finding ways to stop the Stratford Cullitons, which beat Hurricanes, 6-1.

Nathan Templeman had two goals to lead Stratford to victory. Templeman scored at 3:15 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Stratford and again while 19:26 into the second to make the score 4-1 Stratford.

The Cullitons' Michael Pesendorfer was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 28 saves and let only one puck past him. Pesendorfer managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.15 prior to the game.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:47 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Stratford forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game the Cullitons had been spending in the box. Stratford's offense rang up 55 shots on Guelph's net. The Cullitons' goal total was higher than their season average. Stratford has scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Team could not crack the Hurricanes' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 18 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Stratford additionally got points from Pat McKelvie(APJ), who also tallied one goal and one assist. Stratford also got a goal from Drew Gross as well. In addition, Stratford received assists from Tyson Baker, who had two and Brett Heaman, Jordan Currie, Dylan Wettlaufer, Jeff McArdle, Mitch Vandergunst, and O Brien Shane, who each chipped in one.

The Guelph penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 13 minors and two majors for 76 minutes in penalty time. The Hurricanes surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. Guelph's offense operated below it season average. The Hurricanes average 3.2 goals per game.

Guelph was led by Matt Lippa, who scored the team's only goal. Lippa scored on the power play 16:46 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Stratford. The Hurricanes earned a power play opportunity when McKelvie(APJ) was put in the box for hooking. Zach McFadden assisted on the tally.

For the Cullitons, Nick Nigro and Vandergunst were ejected from the contest. Stormer Santana rejected 49 shots on goal for Guelph. The Hurricanes registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Team's Michael Courvoisier, Sam Natale APJ, Dylan Sayles, and Jordan Hatzinger were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
