Cambridge penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of BrantfordGretzky Main Rink Thu, Jan 30, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brantford 99ers failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Cambridge Winter Hawks shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2. Cambridge was led by Zach Magwood ( APM ), who racked up one goal. Magwood ( APM ) scored 15:34 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cambridge. Lucas Zitmanis assisted on the tally. The Winter Hawks stifled Brantford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cambridge forced the 99ers goalie Andre Keire to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Cambridge additionally got points from Maxime Lamontagne, who also had one goal and one assist and Devin Shell, who also registered one goal and one assist. Cambridge also had goals scored by Alex Bottigoni and Matt Pinder, who scored one goal each. More assists for Cambridge came via Alex Mills, who had three and Kalob Witzell and Scott Pawson, who contributed one a piece. Brantford kept the Winter Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Darren Huck made 30 saves on 32 shots. The 99ers were helped by Luc Hartholt, who tallied one goal. Hartholt scored 14:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cole Cummings picked up the assist. Brantford also got a goal from Paris Briscoe as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Guy Polillo, Leonard Dziemianko, and Scotty Penwarden, who each chipped in one. Cambridge incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Keire recorded 31 saves for Brantford. The 99ers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
