Thorold falls to Caledonia in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Caledonia Corvairs pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Thorold Blackhawks on a clutch goal by Spencer Gourlay.

Caledonia came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Corvairs trailed 3-0 after a goal by Thorold's Zach McQuade at 5:29 in the second period. Caledonia knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Brier Jonathan at 17:16 in the third period.

Matt Quilty had a great game for the Corvairs, netting two goals. Quilty found the back of the net 46 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Thorold and again while on the power play 2:21 into the third to make the score 3-2 Thorold.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:09 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Caledonia forced the Blackhawks goalie Brendan Polasek to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

In addition, Caledonia received assists from Cody Brown, who had three and Connor Murphy, Connor Patton, Jayme Forslund, Kyler Nixon, and Todd Ratchford, who each chipped in one.

Thorold forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The Blackhawks had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Thorold kept the Corvairs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Colin Furlong made 33 saves on 36 shots.

The Blackhawks were led by Drake Hart, who finished with one goal and one assist. Hart scored short handed 18:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Thorold. Thorold found itself down a man on Christian Difelice's roughing. Kyle Tanev picked up the assist. Thorold also got a goal from Kevin Lavoie as well. More assists for Thorold came via Matt Pizzo, Owen Sobchak, and Joe Mitchell, who contributed one a piece.

Caledonia totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-7 on the power play. For the Corvairs, Justin Abraham and Scott Dorian were ejected from the contest. Brendan Polasek made 45 saves for the Blackhawks on 49 shots. Thorold registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Team's Michael Sharpe and Francesco Gigliotti were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
