Behind a great game by Brad Kobryn, who had two goals and one assist, the Elmira Sugar Kings defeated the Cambridge Winter Hawks, 6-3. Kobryn scored on the power play at 14:21 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while 27 seconds into the third to make the score 4-2 Elmira.Cambridge fell victim to a deadly Elmira power play, which ripped the Winter Hawks for four goals. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:37 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Sugar Kings kept Cambridge's goalie busy throughout the game, and Lucas Machalski made 41 saves on 47 shots. Elmira surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Sugar Kings average 3.9 goals per game. Elmira was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The defensemen of the Sugar Kings were also effective in the Winter Hawks' zone, and came away with two goals. Elmira also got points from David Savery, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Adam Brubacher, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Elmira also had goals scored by Steven Jakiela and Mitch Wright, who scored one goal each. More assists for Elmira came via Adam Campagnolo, who had three and Craig Johnson, Alex Mutton, and Matt Harding, who each chipped in one. Cambridge racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Winter Hawks had been spending in the box. Elmira was unable to stop Cambridge from sending pucks towards the net, and the Winter Hawks eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Cambridge was helped by Matt Pinder, who registered one goal. Others who scored for Cambridge included Cody Gratton and Jake Moggy, who each put in one. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Maxime Lamontagne, Adam Dauda, Alex Bottigoni, and Scott Pawson, who contributed one a piece. Hayden Neuman rejected 32 shots on goal for the Sugar Kings. Elmira ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Harding was ejected from the game. The Winter Hawks registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Team's Marcellis Subban and Dauda were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
