Brampton's comeback falls short, Stratford wins 4-3Victoria Park Arena Sun, Jan 26, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brampton Bombers almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Stratford Cullitons managed to pull out a 4-3 win in the end. Stratford led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Cullitons' O Brien Shane's scored at 13:28 in the second period to put Stratford up 4-1. The Cullitons got the win on the strength of a great game by Shane, who had two goals and one assist. Shane scored the first of his two goals at 17:21 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Stratford. Shane's next tally made the score Stratford with 6:32 left in the second period. Trevor MacDonald assisted on the tally. Stratford's penalty kill excelled, as the Cullitons gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:04 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. Stratford racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. The Cullitons surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Stratford stifled Brampton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bombers were unable to stop the Cullitons from sending pucks towards the net, and Stratford eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Others who scored for Stratford included Jake Pleon and Tyson Baker, who scored one goal each. In addition, Stratford received assists from Pat McKelvie(APJ) and Drew Gross, who each chipped in one. Brampton stifled the Cullitons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bombers were helped by Josh Villaflor, who registered one goal. Villaflor scored 13:51 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Stratford. Jason Smith picked up the assist. Brampton also had goals scored by Cameron Cruickshank and Chris Maione, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Owen Burry, Reid Jackman, Greg Wilson, Brandon Clelland, and Francois Cote, who contributed one a piece. Nick Caldwell rejected 27 shots on goal for Stratford. The Cullitons registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. For Stratford, Baker was ejected from the game. Brampton's Scott Patton stopped 36 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Bombers ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Brampton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cote was ejected from the game.
