Caledonia vanquishes Welland in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)Haldimand Center Sat, Jan 25, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Caledonia Corvairs defeated the Welland Jr. Canadians in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The two teams needed 14 turns to complete the shootout. Welland got a shootout goal from Bryan Komasara. Caledonia's other shootout goal was scored by Jordan Peacock.The Corvairs came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Caledonia was down 2-1 after a goal by the Jr. Canadians' Jack Fitzgerald at 10:09 in the second period. The Corvairs knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Connor Patton at 17:43 in the second period. Patton had a great game for Caledonia, netting two goals. The Corvairs kept Welland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jeffrey Heartwell made 32 saves on 35 shots. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Cody Brown, who had two and Kyler Nixon and Matt Quilty, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Canadians were led by Jimmy Sheehan, who racked up one goal and one assist. Sheehan scored 7:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland. Komasara assisted on the tally. More assists for Welland came via Damien Lalonde, who had one. Colin Furlong recorded 27 saves for Caledonia. The Corvairs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Welland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
