Cambridge beats Brantford 10-1 as Michaelis gets hat trick

Hudson Michaelis netted a hat trick to lead the Cambridge Winter Hawks over the Brantford 99ers, 10-1.

Michaelis notched his first tally 2:37 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:37 into the first and at 12:17 into the second.

Cambridge was led by goalie Darren Huck, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Huck certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.96 entering the contest.

The Winter Hawks forced 99ers' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 44 shots and forcing 34 saves. Andre Keire made four stops and Tim Porter made 30. Cambridge put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brantford to score on any of its three power plays. The Winter Hawks outdid their season average for goals scored. Cambridge averages 3.4 goals per game.

Cambridge additionally got points from Cody Gratton, who also registered one goal and one assist, Maxime Lamontagne, who also had one goal and one assist, Adam Dauda, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Scott Pawson, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Cambridge also got a goal from Malcolm Bilton as well. More assists for Cambridge came via Alex Mills and Jake Moggy, who each chipped in one and Jordan Chard, Matt Pinder, and Tyler Peters, who contributed two a piece.

The 99ers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Brantford was led by Paris Briscoe, who scored the team's only goal. Briscoe scored 6:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge.

The Winter Hawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
