St. Catharines outlasts Thorold, 7-5

The game between the St. Catharines Falcons and the Thorold Blackhawks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end St. Catharines emerged with a 7-5 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Kyle Woodhouse's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

In the losing effort, Thorold was paced by Owen Sobchak, who had two goals. Sobchak scored the first of his two goals at 11:55 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kevin Lavoie provided the assist. Sobchak's next tally made the score 4-3 Thorold with 7:13 left in the second period. Lavoie assisted on the tally.

The Falcons were led by Woodhouse, who tallied one goal and one assist. Woodhouse scored 17:19 into the third period to make the score 6-5 St. Catharines. Aaron Taylor provided the assist.

St. Catharines' offense rang up 34 shots on the Blackhawks' net. The Falcons' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. St. Catharines averages 2.5 goals allowed per game.

St. Catharines additionally got points from Yanni Rallis, who also registered one goal and one assist, Taylor, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Tommy Barszcz, who also had one goal and one assist. St. Catharines also had goals scored by Nigel Slade, Dilan Walker, and Mark Rodgers, who each put in one. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Mitch Bursey, who had two and Knick Dawe, Greg Jambrosich, Brandon Saigeon (AP), and Brett Brooker, who contributed one a piece.

Thorold kept the Falcons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dawe made 27 saves on 32 shots.

Thorold also got points from Drake Hart, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Joe Mitchell, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Zach McQuade, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Thorold came via Michael Sharpe, Jason Abbott, Kevin Millejours, and Carl Greco, who each chipped in one.

St. Catharines incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Ian Shorthouse rejected 27 shots on goal for the Blackhawks. Thorold incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
