Riley leads xLondon to shutout victory over xSt. ThomasWestern Fair CC Wed, Jan 22, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Jacob Riley was superb between the pipes for the xLondon Nationals, as he did not allow a goal in a 4-0 victory over the xSt. Thomas Stars. xLondon pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 17 penalty minutes. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:02 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Nationals' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six xSt. Thomas power plays. xLondon kept xSt. Thomas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Riley Brown made 37 saves on 41 shots. The Nationals were helped by Keaton Ratcliffe, who grabbed one goal. Ratcliffe scored 1:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 xLondon. Austin Kemp picked up the assist. xLondon also had goals scored by Matt Fuller, Chris Maton, and Matt Wildman, who each put in one. In addition, xLondon received assists from Ryan Shipley, who had two and Mike Whaley, Paul Hopkins, Mark Gazdic, Nik Passero, and Drew Worrad, who contributed one a piece. The Stars did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. xSt. Thomas puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Jacob Riley made 29 saves for xLondon on 29 shots. The Nationals registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. xLondon ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Anthony Kotsvos was ejected from the game. The Stars ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For xSt. Thomas, Blair Mincer was ejected from the game.
