xLaSalle survives xStrathroy comeback, wins 5-4Vollmer Recreation Complex Wed, Jan 22, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The xStrathroy Rockets tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the xLaSalle Vipers held on for a 5-4 victory. A goal by Austin Hall put xLaSalle up 4-1 in the third period, but xStrathroy pulled to within one on Ryan Field's tally 10:10 into the third period. The Vipers got the win with help from a great game by Devon Paliani, who had two goals and two assists. Paliani scored the first of his two goals at 6:05 into the second period to make the score 2-0 xLaSalle. Brendan McCann assisted on the tally. Paliani's next tally made the score 3-1 xLaSalle with 18:55 left in the third period. Billy Eansor picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:57 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. xLaSalle's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six xStrathroy power plays. The Vipers kept the Rockets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jack Moylan made 31 saves on 36 shots. xLaSalle also got points from Hall, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Nathan Savage, who also had one goal and one assist. xLaSalle also got a goal from Blake Jones as well. More assists for xLaSalle came via Mark Manchurek, Nathan Veres, and Dylan Denomme, who each chipped in one. xStrathroy excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. xLaSalle was unable to stop the Rockets from sending pucks towards the net, and xStrathroy eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Rockets were helped by Tyler Coleman, who registered one goal. Coleman scored 9:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 xLaSalle. Jordan DaSilva provided the assist. Others who scored for xStrathroy included Brett Dalton and Mike Mandarelli, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for xStrathroy were Tyler Duarte, who had three and Matt Lebert, Cole Mayo, and Nick Boyer, who contributed one a piece. Paolo Battisti rejected 33 shots on goal for the Vipers. xLaSalle ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For the Vipers, Bryce Mayea was ejected from the game. xStrathroy ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. The Rockets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Coleman was ejected from the game.
