St. Catharines survives Niagara Falls comeback, wins 4-3

The St. Catharines Falcons survived a determined comeback attempt by the Niagara Falls Canucks on the way to a 4-3 win.

St. Catharines made the score 4-0 on a goal by Brennan Feasey at 16:07 in the second period, and Niagara Falls got as close as 4-3 when Mitch McIntosh scored 14:04 into the third period.

Feasey had two goals to lead the Falcons to victory.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:36 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with seven game misconducts.

The St. Catharines penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and three majors for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Falcons surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Catharines' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Niagara Falls power plays. The Falcons' offense rang up 55 shots on the Canucks' net.

Others who scored for St. Catharines included Yanni Rallis and Ryan Doucette, who each put in one. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Kyle Woodhouse, Brandon Cercone, Tommy Barszcz, and Mark Rodgers, who contributed one a piece and Greg Jambrosich and Tyler Hildebrant, who each chipped in two.

Niagara Falls racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and three majors for 61 minutes in penalty time. The Canucks had been averaging 35.0 minutes in penalties per game. Niagara Falls forced St. Catharines goalie Knick Dawe to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The defense for the Canucks tightened up when they had players in the penalty box, as it let in one goal on 11 the Falcons power plays.

Niagara Falls also had goals scored by MacKenzie Wood and Johnny Curran, who scored one goal each. More assists for Niagara Falls came via Garrett Gallardi, Marcus Michalski, and Brooker Muir, who contributed one a piece.

Dawe recorded 36 saves for St. Catharines. For the Falcons, Ryan Stayner, Nigel Slade, and Cam Blakely were ejected from the contest. Niagara Falls' Emerson Verrier stopped 51 shots out of the 55 that he faced. Team's Chris Harpur, Frank Nemeth, Vito Scaringi, and Billy Saxton were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
