Ancaster beats Thorold 6-5 as Klack gets hat trick

Christopher Klack netted a hat trick to lead the Ancaster Avalanche over the Thorold Blackhawks, 6-5.

Klack's first goal came 1:53 into the first period. He then added goals at 17:29 into the second and at 2:57 into the third.

Ancaster racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game the Avalanche had been spending in the box. Ancaster's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Avalanche average 3.6 goals per contest. Ancaster struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Thorold to score three power play goals on five chances.

Ancaster additionally got points from Luke Zupan, who also had one goal and two assists and Zach Niemanen, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Ancaster also got a goal from Brett Farrelly as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Eric Eustace, Ryan Lewis, Cole Nagy, Jake Milligan, Marcus Baird, and Harrison Domagala, who contributed one a piece.

The Blackhawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Avalanche to score on any of their three power plays. The defensemen of Thorold were also effective in Ancaster's zone, and came away with two goals.

The Blackhawks were led by Kevin Lavoie, who racked up two goals and two assists. Lavoie scored the first of his two goals at 16:28 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Ryan Sarris provided the assist. Lavoie's next tally made the score 4-4 with 34 seconds left in the second period. Thorold earned a power play opportunity when Michael Pollice was put in the box for checking from behind. Owen Sobchak picked up the assist. Thorold also got points from Michael Sharpe, who also registered two goals and one assist. Joe Mitchell also scored for Thorold. More assists for Thorold came via Matt Pizzo, who had one.

Matt Calas made 13 saves before being replaced by Braydon Banitsiotis, who took the win and made 12 saves. For the Avalanche, Pollice was ejected from the game. The Blackhawks' starting goalie, Ian Shorthouse, made 13 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Brendan Polasek, who stopped 10 shots. Thorold incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
