Fort Erie falls apart in second, loses to Caledonia, 7-2Fort Erie Leisureplex Sat, Jan 18, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fort Erie Meteors was within striking distance after one period, but the Caledonia Corvairs put the pedal down in the second en route to a 7-2 victory. Kyler Nixon was all over the ice for Caledonia, as he tallied one goal and four assists in the win. Nixon scored 20:00 into the second period to make the score 6-2 Caledonia. Fort Erie was unable to stop the Corvairs from sending pucks towards the net, and Caledonia eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Caledonia also got points from Connor Murphy, who also had one goal and one assist. Caledonia also had goals scored by Jake Brown, who had two and Cody Brown, Mitch Brown, and Jeffrey Marlott, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Spencer Gourlay and Ryan Blunt, who contributed one a piece. The Meteors racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. Fort Erie had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Meteors were helped by Alex Hurren, who grabbed one goal. Hurren scored 19:05 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Caledonia. Braden Kavaratzis provided the assist. Fort Erie additionally got points from Kavaratzis, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Fort Erie came via Dakota Miskolczi and Kyle Marino, who each chipped in one. The Corvairs' Colin Furlong stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Caledonia totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-12 on the power play. For the Corvairs, Jordan Peacock was ejected from the game. Matt Baker made 30 saves for Fort Erie on 37 shots. The Meteors ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Marino was ejected from the game.
