Welland downs Port Colborne, 6-3

Brayden Stortz had two points to lead the Welland Jr. Canadians to a 6-3 victory over the Port Colborne Pirates.

Welland kept Port Colborne's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Danson made 61 saves on 67 shots. The Jr. Canadians surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Welland has scored at the pace of 3.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Team could not crack the Pirates' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Welland also got points from Miller Hatten, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Welland included Matt Cuglietta, Bryan Komasara, JC Thivienge, and Damien Lalonde, who scored one goal each. In addition, Welland received assists from Jonathan Goldsworthy, Adam Mataya, Cole McKnight, Matthew Mateljan, Matt Sutherland, and Tyler Stranges, who each chipped in one and Jack Fitzgerald and Adam Barron, who contributed two a piece.

Port Colborne forced the Jr. Canadians goalie Chris Janzen to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The Pirates were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 32 penalty minutes.

Port Colborne was helped by Ryall Ledyard, who tallied one goal. Ledyard scored 16:00 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Port Colborne. Matthew White picked up the assist. Port Colborne also had goals scored by John DiLorenzo and James Mewse-Detrich, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were Cody Levasseur, Quinn Geddes, Brandon Cullen, and Brock Ackerman, who each chipped in one.

Janzen recorded 31 saves for Welland. The Jr. Canadians incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Pirates registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
