xLeamington boosted by Wheaton's play in net, beats St. Thomas 5-1

The xLeamington Flyers relied on the sparkling performance of Trevor Wheaton in net to grab a 5-1 win against the St. Thomas Stars.

xLeamington was sparked by Chris Scott, who tallied one goal. Scott scored 2:09 into the second period to make the score 2-1 xLeamington. Ryan Muzzin provided the assist.

The Flyers stifled St. Thomas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. xLeamington forced the Stars goalie Riley Brown to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

xLeamington also got points from Nathan Opblinger, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. xLeamington also had goals scored by Blaine Bechard, David Dalby, and Dylan Seguin, who scored one goal each. In addition, xLeamington received assists from Alex Seguin and Mitchell Amante, who each chipped in two.

St. Thomas was held below its usual level of production. The Stars average 3.5 goals per game. St. Thomas kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Wheaton made 30 saves on 31 shots.

The Stars were led by Alex Morgan, who scored the team's only goal. Morgan scored 1:52 into the second period to make the score 1-1. John Warren assisted on the tally.

xLeamington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Riley Brown made 36 saves for St. Thomas on 41 shots. The Stars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
