The Thorold Blackhawks pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Welland Jr. Canadians on a clutch goal by Joe Mitchell.

Thorold overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Blackhawks trailed 2-0 after a power play goal by Welland's Adam Mataya at 18:07 in the second period. Thorold tied things up at 2-2 on a short handed goal by Michael Sharpe at 19:05 in the third period.

The Blackhawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 24 penalty minutes.

The Jr. Canadians were unable to stop Thorold from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blackhawks eventually piled up 59 shots on goal.

Thorold also got points from Carl Greco, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Thorold received assists from Owen Sobchak, who had one and Kevin Lavoie and Drake Hart, who contributed two a piece.

Welland stifled Thorold's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Jr. Canadians were led by Bryan Komasara, who finished with one goal and one assist. Komasara scored 8:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland. Jack Fitzgerald assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Gabe Ruggi, who had one.

Ian Shorthouse recorded 25 saves for the Blackhawks. Thorold registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Jeffrey Heartwell made 56 saves for Welland on 59 shots. The Jr. Canadians incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
