Cambridge vanquishes Kitchener in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Sun, Jan 12, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cambridge Winter Hawks defeated the Kitchener Dutchmen in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams. Kitchener got a shootout goal from Keli Grant. In addition to the clincher, Cambridge got a shootout goal from Alex Bottigoni.The Winter Hawks forced the Dutchmen goalie Marc Williams to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Cambridge was helped by Hudson Michaelis, who registered one goal. Michaelis scored on the power play 14:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. The Winter Hawks had gotten the advantage when Kitchener's Mac Nichol was sent off for high sticking. Bottigoni picked up the assist. Cambridge also got points from Adam Dauda, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Cambridge was unable to stop the Dutchmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Kitchener eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. The Dutchmen were helped by Connor Cole(APM), who grabbed one goal. Cole(APM) scored 4:26 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Keegan Calder assisted on the tally. More assists for Kitchener came via Clayton Greer and Dylan Bursey, who contributed one a piece. Darren Huck made 47 saves for the Winter Hawks on 49 shots. Cambridge incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kitchener's Williams stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Dutchmen totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Kitchener ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Demrovsky was ejected from the game.
