Creighton lifts Niagara Falls over Port Colborne, 5-2

Behind a great game by Denis Creighton, who had two goals, the Niagara Falls Canucks defeated the Port Colborne Pirates, 5-2.

Creighton scored at 3:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls and again while short handed 16:02 into the first to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls.

Niagara Falls' penalty kill excelled, as the Canucks gave up one goal despite allowing 13 power plays.

Niagara Falls racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and two majors for 56 minutes in penalty time. The Canucks surpassed its season average of 35.0 penalty minutes per game. Port Colborne was unable to stop Niagara Falls from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canucks eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Niagara Falls also got points from Cole Vinnai, who also had two goals and two assists and Vito Scaringi, who also racked up one goal and two assists. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Johnny Curran and Cole Langan, who each chipped in one.

The Pirates forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Port Colborne had been spending in the box. The Pirates excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Port Colborne forced Niagara Falls goalie Dylan Pietrangelo to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Pirates were helped by Ty Learn, who registered one goal. Learn scored 4:34 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cody Levasseur also scored for Port Colborne.

The Canucks' Pietrangelo stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Team's Sean Farquharson and Brooker Muir were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Jake Danson rejected 34 shots on goal for Port Colborne. For the Pirates, Levasseur and Jerrad Taylor were ejected from the contest.
