Waterloo uses early goal to top Brantford, 4-2

The Waterloo Siskins beat the Brantford 99ers, 4-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Waterloo took over the lead for good with a goal by Eric Cimino at 4:48 in the first period. Thomas Carey picked up the assist.

Troy Lajeunesse had two goals to lead the Siskins to victory. Lajeunesse found the back of the net 12:37 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Waterloo and again while short handed 11:44 into the third to make the score 3-1 Waterloo.

Waterloo pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 17 penalty minutes.

The Siskins' offense rang up 31 shots on Brantford's net.

Michael Mantenuto also scored for Waterloo. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Mitch Atkins, who had two and Nick Petropoulos, Matt Martin, Andrew Brubacher, Ryan Taylor, and Danny Hanlon, who each chipped in one.

The 99ers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Brantford kept Waterloo's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Hergott made 32 saves on 34 shots.

The 99ers were led by Nathan Bastian, who registered one goal and one assist. Bastian scored short handed 18:09 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Waterloo. Brantford played down a man on Paris Briscoe's charging. John Nay provided the assist. Brantford also got a goal from Nathan Ferris as well. More assists for Brantford came via Kevin Fitzpatrick and Guy Polillo, who contributed one a piece.

For the Siskins, Christian Mroczkowski and Connor Bodnar were ejected from the contest. The 99ers' Andre Keire stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Brantford incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
