Cambridge's Pinder deadly on offense in 5-1 win against ElmiraGalt Arena Gardens Sat, Jan 11, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cambridge Winter Hawks relied on the scoring touch of Matt Pinder, who netted two goals, to beat the Elmira Sugar Kings, 5-1. Pinder scored at 9:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge and again while 10:39 into the first to make the score 2-0 Cambridge.Cambridge's Lucas Machalski was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 30 saves and let only one puck past him. Machalski managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.42 prior to the game. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:59 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Winter Hawks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and two majors for 26 minutes in penalty time. Cambridge surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The Winter Hawks made Sugar Kings' goaltenders to work in net, finishing with 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Hayden Neuman made 26 stops and Jonathan Reinhart made two. Cambridge excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Cambridge also got a goal from Cameron Pentsa as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Jake Moggy and Jordan Chard, who each chipped in one and Adam Dauda, Scott Pawson, and Hudson Michaelis, who contributed two a piece. Elmira could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Sugar Kings put an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. Elmira's offense rang up 31 shots on the Winter Hawks' net. The Sugar Kings gave up more goals than its normal season average. Elmira is averaging 2.2 goals against for the season. The Sugar Kings were led by Alex Mutton, who scored the team's only goal. Mutton scored 19:41 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge. Adam Campagnolo provided the assist. Cambridge registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Winter Hawks, Tyler Peters and Michaelis were ejected from the contest. Elmira ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. Team's Mutton and Cass Frey were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
