Fort Erie vanquishes St. Catharines in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fort Erie Meteors defeated the St. Catharines Falcons in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 18 attempts between both teams. St. Catharines' shootout goal was scored by Aaron Taylor. In addition to the clincher, Fort Erie got a shootout goal from Jared Marino.

The Meteors stifled the Falcons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Fort Erie was led by Matt Marsden, who finished with one goal and one assist. Marsden scored 57 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Erie. Jack Webb provided the assist. Fort Erie also got points from Webb, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Braden Kavaratzis also scored for Fort Erie. Other players who recorded assists for Fort Erie were Bryce Biller, Marino, Kyle Marino, and Jesse Pereira, who each chipped in one.

St. Catharines forced the Meteors goalie Liam Conway to work between the pipes, taking 54 shots.

The Falcons were helped by Ryan Doucette, who racked up one goal. Doucette scored 10:08 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Tommy Barszcz assisted on the tally. St. Catharines additionally got points from Taylor, who also tallied one goal and one assist. St. Catharines also got a goal from Kyle Woodhouse as well. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Mitch Bursey, who had two and Dilan Walker and Brennan Feasey, who contributed one a piece.

Conway recorded 51 saves for Fort Erie. The Meteors incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. St. Catharines' Jonathon D Ilario stopped 15 shots out of the 18 that he faced. The Falcons incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
